The Federal Agency of Government Communication and Information (FAPSI) is not going to prevent the sales of Windows 2000 in Russia. Previously, the FAPSI worried about Microsoft's promise to use a strong crypto-operation in the export versions of the Windows 2000 while, in accordance with Russian law, sales of import software with cryptography are forbidden. But a day or two ago the FAPSI came to a philosophical decision: the agency has no copies of the Windows 2000, therefore it has no facts confirming the presence of cryptographic modules in this system.
